On Thursday, the Success Academy community made history by launching its first day of remote teaching and learning. Families and scholars worked together to create special study areas in their homes, and teachers carefully planned and pumped each other up in early-morning video conferences. Throughout the day they connected individually with scholars over the phone and called parents to debrief. It was likely the most unusual “first day” of school in the history of Success, but some things didn’t change: scholars logged in excited and ready to learn, teachers put all their energy into making lessons engaging and exciting, and families were as supportive as ever. The majority of our schools reported an attendance rate of 97% or higher! Thank you — together, anything is possible!
Here are top tips to remember for successful remote learning, along with some of our favorite photos of scholars in their work spaces. Keep up the great work!
- Join each session on time!
- Keep your microphone muted until it is your turn to talk. This helps everyone hear each other and minimizes distractions.
- Make the most of breaks. Relax, share a joke, call friends — or maybe start an art project, practice dancing, or do some soccer drills! Be sure to follow your SA electives teachers on Instagram for ideas!
- Don’t forget to talk to each other about what you read — who is your favorite character? What was the most exciting part?
